I can't really put in words how good it feels for me to be able to whip out my library card and check out a book! Being able to access information for free and ad skill on top of skill to my arsenal is empowering!
For me, even if I do have to purchase a book its a win. I get a sense of excitement knowing that there is so much knowledge and information from those who have either lived before me, or may be more knowledgeable about a subject regardless of age. I can consume the information on my own time and apply the knowledge immediately.
Don't get me wrong. In the past, whether it be learning to market, animate, mix audio, or shoot digital video. I would generally just jump in head first and depend on trial and error. And there are some things that you just have to experience that a book cant really teach you. But reading up on what you want to eventually learn or accomplish can be free in a lot of cases, and very rewarding over all.
Even if its just 10-15 minutes a day, I highly recommend we spend time reading! Don't like to read? How about an audio book? Play it while you clean the house or whatever it is that doesn't require your full concentration. Either way, soak up the knowledge that is out there for you!
